Systemic Cancer

A cancer is called systemic cancer when it affects more than one site or the entire body. Some cancers become systemic when they spread from the original location to other areas (metastasis) or if they invade local tissues (local invasion). Other cancers are considered systemic by default because they occur in cells that circulate throughout the body; lymphoma is systemic cancer, as is leukemia.
